Pastor’s Column
The Importance of Promoting One Another
Helen and I enjoy watching the birds come to the feeders we’ve placed off the deck in our backyard. Sometimes, things are peaceful and several birds eat at the same time. Most of the time, they take turns and drop down to snatch a seed or two and then fly off to a tree branch while another bird drops in for seed. Occasionally one bird will chase the other bird off the feeder. Then, there are the times when the peace is shattered because a larger bird drops in and scares all the little ones away.
I’ve been thinking recently about how relationships in the church have a lot in common with the birds. As Christians we desire to keep relationships in the church happy and harmonious but that’s not always possible. Disagreements among Christians are unavoidable. Inevitably, something is said or done by someone which hurts the feelings of another and the one who is hurt decides to stop coming to church and drops out of all activities related to the church. Unlike a bird driven away from the birdfeeder, this self-imposed move to isolation can escalate into a serious problem because we need relationships with other believers in order to survive in this life.
That’s why the apostle Paul wrote, “Live in harmony with one another… If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” (Romans 12:16a and 18).
Harmony. That’s a wonderful word isn’t it? And so is the word, peace. When there’s harmony and peace around the birdfeeder, it’s a wonderful thing to watch because birds are swooping in and eating at the feeder and everyone is getting fed. I don’t understand bird talk, but they make it sound like they’re enjoying themselves.
The same is true in the church. When there is harmony and peace in the church, it’s a wonderful thing to watch and especially to be part of. But it takes work and effort on everyone’s part. The Bible tells us to minister to one another. Are you doing your part, as Paul says, to “live in harmony” and to “live at peace” with your Christian brothers and sisters? May we all do so today.
Pastor Jay

CAMBRIDGE KIDS NEED YOU Hey Cambridge family, you may not know it but the kids love tosee you involved in their activities! There are lots of opportunities to get plugged in to their religious education at Cambridge. I encourage you to prayerfully consider volunteering to help this year either in a regular rotation or at some of our special events. We need your help at Team Kid, in Sunday School, Children’s' Church, and as a chaperone. Contact Kelley at Kelley12408@hotmail.com, through the church office or at 741.1137. Thank you for your help!
CHILDREN’S CHURCH We want to encourage our 4th and 5th graders to worship with us as much as possible. The Kid's Bulletins are geared towards that age group and are usually based on the week's scripture and sermon. Please make sure all your kids pick up a bulletin and bag before church starts! If you or your kids have any ideas about how to make these bags or bulletins more fun, please let Kelley McLean know! Children's Church is also available. The curriculum is aimed at kids 6-8 years old. Please contact Kelley with any questions or if you want to volunteer! Kelley12408@hotmail.com

DEACON’S BENEVOLENT PROGRAM
Cambridge Baptist Deacons Fund Raiser
Do you like to eat? If a true Baptist, the answer is a resounding Yes and Amen to that!
If so please join us at Rudino’s Pizza and Grinders right after church services on the last Sunday of each Month.
Cambridge Baptist Deacons have joined with Rudino’s Pizza and Grinders to host a last Sunday of the Month fund raiser for the deacons. These funds raised will go toward a Benevolent Account from which the deacons can disperse funds as needed to those in need. The account will be managed by the Stewardship Committee but the Deacons will provide the decision when to activate the funds.
For those wondering what a “grinder” is, no, it’s not something to grind metal with. A grinder in the basic sense is a sub sandwich. Also Rudino’s has salads for those health conscious of us as well as a vegetarian menu. To top it off, pastas as well, so something for everyone’s taste and wants.
So make a note on your calendar and plan to join us for lunch on the last Sunday of each Month. Rudino’s is conveniently located on Ridgefield Parkway. From Cambridge Road turn right onto Ridgefield and turn left at the next turn lane. As you turn in, Rudino’s is ahead on your left in the strip mall section. We look forward to seeing each of you there. Cambridge Baptist Deacons

open communication among the members of the congregation and between the church
family and the pastor.
